In 1978, in Italy, approval of Basaglias reform law marked a shift from an asylum-based to community-based mental health system. The main aim the was treat patients community and no longer psychiatric hospitals. Following Italian model, similar reforms care have been approved worldwide. model aims promote integration human rights for people with disorders on basis their freedom choose treatment options.
 By 2000, all hospitals had closed discharged. Mental is organized through Department Health, which umbrella organization responsible specialist community; this includes wards located general hospitals, residential facilities, centres, day-hospital day-care units.
